Stefano India is an Italian electric bassist, double bassist, composer and educator based in Palermo, working across jazz, fusion, Latin and pop.
He was a member of the first Matteo Mancuso Trio – co-curating the live arrangements and touring venues and festivals across Europe – and played on Mancuso’s debut album The Journey, released by Mascot Label Group (USA, NL), the label known for Joe Bonamassa, Steve Vai and TOTO.
In 2023 he launched Drop the Bass, his project of original compositions, and recorded Drop the Bass, the series, a six-episode audio/video live-in-studio session. In 2025 he was invited to represent Festivalle with a showcase at the Italian Jazz Conference, the annual meeting of I-Jazz, Italy’s national association of jazz festivals and promoters, with Carla Restivo on saxophones, Valerio Dainotti on keyboards and Carmelo Miceli on drums.
He has performed at venues and festivals such as Jazzahead! Bremen and SRH Berlin (DE), Boullard Musique for Yamaha Music Europe (CH), A to Jazz (BG), Deva Jazz Festival (RO), Festivalle, Blue Note Milan, Casa del Jazz Rome, Festival di Spoleto and the Ancient Theatre of Taormina (IT), among others.
His collaborations span modern jazz, standards and Latin (Bebo Ferra, Mimmo Cafiero, John Serry, Nicola Caminiti), fusion and rock (Matteo Mancuso), pop orchestra (Raphael Gualazzi, Fabrizio Bosso), jazz orchestra (Peter Erskine, Gregg Field, Monica Mancini) and classical music (double bass in the Conservatory Symphony Orchestra).
With #RedingProject he won the jazz category of the Premio Nazionale delle Arti (2018) and the Chicco Bettinardi Award (2020), and he received the best soloist award at the Premio Enzo Randisi (2016). He is an endorsed artist for Markbass and Dogal Strings.
Stefano is a PhD student in artistic research at the “Nicola Sala” Conservatory of Benevento. He earned degrees in electric bass, with distinction, and in classical double bass at the “Alessandro Scarlatti” Conservatory of Palermo, and studied ensemble music with Mimmo Cafiero at Open Jazz Club Palermo. He teaches electric and double bass, and his electric bass course (in Italian) is available on the Federiscores platform.
